POLICE are searching a caravan park near Sutton on Sea after new information was given about the disappearance of a Skegness-area woman.

Lincolnshire Police officers and divers are currently at Lakeside Caravan Park searching for Anne Simpson, who has not been seen since 2004.

Anne was reported missing the day after her disappearance by her partner and has not been seen since.

After a renewed appeal by Anne’s two daughters in September, the seventh anniversary of the disappearance, an anonymous phone call was made from a public phone box in Wigston, Leicestershire, last week.

The information the male caller gave appears to have pointed police towards the caravan park near Sutton on Sea.

Police say the search could last a number of days.

Meanwhile a 62-year-old man has been arrested in Devon in connection with Anne’s disappearance and is currently being questioned by police.

DCI Nigel Storey, who is leading the investigation, said: “For seven years, Anne’s family has endured the anguish of not knowing what happened to their mother.

“The new information that has come to light may finally provide answers and offer her daughters the closure they seek.

“I believe that the anonymous caller possesses further information that will help us obtain those answers for Anne’s family and I would urge that person to contact us again and help me find out what happened on the day Anne disappeared.”

‘Absolutely awful’

Anne’s daughter Jo Hill has appealed for anyone with more information to come forward to help conclude years of tormenting uncertainty once and for all.

She said: “I know it’s a long time ago but if anyone has any kind of information whatsoever it might help.

“I was only told about the developments this morning so I’m a bit all over the place at the moment but it’s a positive thing that this is happening and I’m hoping by the end of it all I will have an answer to take home for the rest of the family.

“The last years have been horrible, you wake up very morning not knowing what happened or where she is.

“None of us believed that she was still alive, because she used to call us most days and would never disappear like this, so it’s been absolutely awful.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 35 of 15 May.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
