Lincolnshire Coastal Grazing Marshes project gets £50,000
East Lindsey District Council has awarded £50,000 to the Lincolnshire Coastal Grazing Marshes project.
It is one of the first to receive funding through the recently formed Rural Development Grant.
The project encourages young people to gain a year’s practical experience working on livestock farms and links existing Public Rights of Way in the coastal country park across the marshes to the Wolds.
In 2011, the District Council announced it would be putting £1.5m aside to support projects that increase investment; create or safeguard local employment; support the development of new business; attract additional visitors or increase the number of people involved in training or business development.
Dean Kirkland, Project Manager for the Lincolnshire Coastal Grazing Marshes Project, said: “The Grazing Marshes project is extremely grateful for the support of East Lindsey District Council through the Rural Development Grant award.
“With this money we hope to help local business owners develop new environmentally friendly business ideas to boost the district’s economy, offer apprenticeships in livestock farming to encourage young people to stay in the area, and teach school children about the valuable contribution our farmers make in supporting wildlife as well as producing food.”
Coun Craig Leyland, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development at the council, said: “I’m pleased we’ve been able to support the Coastal Grazing Marshes project to enable them to deliver on their aspirations. The economic climate is tough and through the Rural Development Grant we believe we can make a real difference locally.
“We need more business, we need more jobs and we need more visitors and we hope that by working hand in hand with local people we can help achieve that with this fund.”
Local communities and organisations still have the chance to apply for the funding by submitting expression of interests.
