Lincolnshire schools outstrip national average for GCSE results

National league tables published today for 2012 show Lincolnshire’s schools continue to outstrip national averages for GCSE performance.

Results for 16-year olds at GCSE show the 5A*-C including English and maths pass rate was 62.1 per cent, 3.3 per cent above the national average.

Caistor Grammar School Academy and Boston High School achieved an outstanding 100% pass rate for this measure.

The 5 A*-C results increased to 85.9 per cent which is 2.9 per cent above the national average, while 96 per cent of all year 11 children achieved 5+ A*-G grades.

Lincolnshire has again outperformed average pass rates for its statistical neighbours over all categories of performance, including a 5.3% lead in terms of 5A*-C grades including English and maths.

The percentage of pupils achieving the English Baccalaureate, introduced by the Coalition in 2010, has increased by 2 per cent in Lincolnshire to 20.6 per cent. This is well above the national average of 16.2 per cent and eight of our schools exceed 60 per cent for this measure.

Lincolnshire’s maintained schools have outperformed academies, with 6 per cent of pupils achieving 5 A*-C grades including English and maths, compared to 62 per cent for academies - although there were some outstanding results in all types of school.

Councillor Mrs Patricia Bradwell, Executive Councillor for Children’s Services, said: “Once more Lincolnshire students have achieved some fantastic results, whether in schools, academies or colleges. It is pleasing to see results continue to improve year after year.

“The achievements and qualifications gained by young people should help towards securing jobs and other opportunities.

“Together with their parents, carers and teachers, they all deserve recognition for an outstanding year of success for Lincolnshire.”
