Lincolnshire Wolds Railway extension to Louth gets public and political support
FOLLOWING the announcement in the Leader of a fundraising appeal by the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway to extend the tracks towards Louth, the heritage steam line had a stall at the town’s market on Saturday.
Spokesman Phil Eldridge said: “There was a great deal of interest from passers-by throughout the day and we gave out hundreds of information leaflets.
“People were very supportive of what we are trying to do and in the short time since the appeal was featured on the front page of the Leader we have already received a number of donations and offers of help”.
Two Members of Parliament and three members of the House of Lords have visited the rilway to meet the volunteers and see how the Ludborough based steam line is progressing with its extension plans.
Nicky Morgan MP, Martin Vickers MP, Lord Faulkner of Worcester, Lord Grocott, and Lord Rosser are members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Heritage Rail.
Following a ride on the steam train to North Thoresby and back, the party had refreshments in the Steaming Kettle Buffet and were shown around the station museum and the engine shed.
