Lord Archer to open Louth Museum exhibition on Thomas Wallis
LORD Archer is to open a new exhibition on Louth’s Victorian woodcarver and artist Thomas Wallis at the town’s museum.
Louth Museum has the largest national collection of the incredibly detailed woodcarvings of game birds and foliage by Wallis.
For this exhibition the museum has secured the loan of a few additional carvings from other museums and individuals.
Each of the carvings is from a single piece of limewood,
His carvings are said to surpass those of Grinling Gibbons.
Lord Archer, MP for Louth from 1969 to 1974, will open the exhibition on Saturday May 5. It will run from May 5 to August 25.
