Louth and District Arthritis Group has hosted a special New Year meal for its members ahead of what is hoped to be a positive year for the charity. Secretary Kathy Johnson hopes that the group will be able to reinvigorate its membership and be brought back into the limelight in 2014.

The registered charity, which broke away from Arthritis Care eight years ago in order to have greater control over its local funds, currently has 62 members.

More than 50 members attended attend the meal on Wednesday January 15, along with honourary guests Mayor David Wing and his wife, Mayoress Phyllis Wing.

Chairperson Muriel Thornes, who took on the role in 2008, describes the group as “nice and friendly”, and said: “We would like new members to come along. You don’t have to have arthritis to join - I didn’t have it when I became a member.

“We meet every month, and we have tea, biscuits and cakes. We usually have a guest speaker, or occasionally

bingo, for entertainment. We only ask for a 50p donation to cover the costs.”

The group meets every third Wednesday of each month, between 2.30pm and 4pm, at Trinity Church Hall in Eastgate, Louth.

Membership is just £6 per year. Funds are used to provide taxis for members who are unable to make their own way to events.

Come along to one of the monthly meetings to join the group.
