Louth author Rosalyn Spencer to host free conference

Louth-based education consultant and author, Rosalyn Spencer, will host a conference entitled '˜Working Together for Children: Transitions' next month - where the keynote speaker will be David Taylor, headteacher of a school which was recently shortlisted for the '˜Secondary School of the Year' award.

Rosalyn - author of ‘Why I Started a Small School’ - will host the conference at Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln, on Friday May 6.

The reception and refreshments begin at 1pm, following by the welcome and introduction at 1.30pm. The event will then feature the keynote speech, small group focus sessions, a tea break, feedback and summing up. The event will finish at around 4pm.

The event is open to teachers, parents, students, childcare professionals, and anybody interested in a more ‘human-scale’ approach to education.

Rosalyn said: “We are delighted to announce that Stanley Park High, Surrey - whose headteacher will be our keynote speaker - has just been shortlisted for the Secondary School of the Year Award by the Times Educational Supplement.

“David Taylor turned around a school in very challenging circumstances using human scale principles. He talks about how the structures and practices now in place within Stanley Park High School emphasise the primacy of relationships thereby mitigating difficulties experienced at transition.

“His school in Surrey is now regularly visited by educationalists who have a concern with the industrial scale of many schools.”
