Louth based Big Swing Band release CD

A Louth based big band has released a professional CD recorded in the town to mark their tenth birthday.

The Big Swing Band brought in an international recording company, BMP, to set up a location studio at the Riverhead Theatre where they worked for several days to lay down 17 tracks of vintage swing music.

The CD, titled At Last, was launched at a cocktails and canapes gala evening in the theatre for 200 invited black tie guests and is now on sale in time to put it in enthusiasts Christmas stockings!

It features instrumentals made famous by the likes of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey plus vocals by the Band’s three singers, Gary Grace, Sara Blair Manning and Christine Scott. The recording was made by head of BMP, Ken Blair who is an award winning producer and engineer and lives in Spilsby.

Songwriter Tony Hatch supported the Band’s venture by providing his own composition Call Me to vocalist Gary Grace for the recording.

Co-founder of the Band Paula Baldwin says the next challenge is to sell the 1,000 CDs at the Band’s gigs over the next year. Local record shop, Off the Beaten Tracks in Aswell Street, Louth, have agreed to help by stocking them and they are also on sale on the band’s website www.bigswingband.co.uk.

The Big Swing Band will once again be helping the Stanhope Hall at Horncastle to raise funds for the Hall by putting on a Christmas Show and dance night at the Hall on Friday, December 14.

The programme will feature Christmas favourites from the vintage swing music era of the 40s and 50s including hits by stars like Glenn Miller, Etta James, Peggy Lee, Matt Munro, and The Andews Sisters.

The 17 musicians will be backing three vocalists – Sara Blair Manning, Christine Scott and international crooner, Gary Grace. And to get the party started, swing jive troupe, Jump Jive Alive, will be doing dance displays on the Halls large sprung wooden dance floor.

The band will be lead by retired Major Paul Murrell, former top band master with the British Army, and the show will be presented by Paula Baldwin.

Tickets are on sale at Houldens, 17 High Street, Horncastle, for £12.50 which includes a mince pie and party treats! For further information or to arrange tickets by post, call 01507 523555 or 01469 540734.
