A 19-year-old painter and decorator from Louth has scooped a top award in the regional heats of the national SkillBuild 2014 competition, beating stiff competition from entrants from around the region including Lincoln, Sheffield and York.

Joshua Wilkinson, who studies at Grimsby Institute, was named the best senior painter and decorator at the competition in Hull on June 24, against 100 other young construction trainees.

The top 10 competitors from the 14 regional heats across the UK will go to the national final at Birmingham’s NEC in November, and Joshua is hopeful that he’ll be one of them.

Joshua, a former Monks’ Dyke student said: “I’m excited to have won, especially since I did the same competition last year and came fourth, so I am very pleased to win.

“I would like to thank my tutor Fran Ellis at Grimsby Institute, as well as my family for supporting me.”

Joshua’s business, JDW Decorators, can be contacted on 07896 882853.
