Louth is crowned Britain’s favourite market town!
LOUTH is officially Britain’s favourite market town!
The town has topped a poll among thousands of readers of BBC Countryfile magazine, and the win has been described as ‘national recognition of how special Louth is’.
The magazine launched the contest in April, and after being shortlisted it was up to the public to have their say.
And Louth saw off stiff competition from the likes of Ludlow, Stamford and Richmond to earn the title.
Mayor of Louth, Coun Jill Makinson-Sanders said the win ‘would put the town on the map’.
The magazine said: “There was stiff competition among the towns in this shortlist drawn up by writer Candida Lycett Green and Coast presenter Nicholas Crane.
“Louth in Lincolnshire is a deserved winner. It has a thriving street market, livestock market and Georgian shopping streets lined with independent stores. Mayor of Louth Jill Makinson-Sanders and Town Clerk, Linda Blankley accepted the award.”
