The Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth had to close after an explosion caused a power cut in the town.

NEARLY 2,000 homes in Louth were left without power for over an hour on Wednesday afternoon after an explosion, with the town’s leisure centre also forced to close.

Northern Power Grid have confirmed that 1,704 homes were knocked out after a small blast on a disc insulator at 2.39pm.

All but 20 of the homes were back online by 4pm with the remaining few back on at 6pm.

East Lindsey District Council confirmed that the Meridian Leisure Centre was forced to close after being plunged into darkness by the power cut, but it did re-open later in the afternoon.
