Louth man believed to be among Algerian hostage crisis survivors

A man believed to be from Louth is reported to be among the British hostages who survived the gas plant hostage crisis in Algeria.

Reports suggest Lou Fear, a 56-year-old engineer, was among the 23 Britons caught up in the four-day siege at the In Amenas gas facility which came to an end on Saturday.

National newspapers have claimed Mr Fear was among those who survived.

Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Saturday that there were ‘fewer than ten’ British workers unaccounted for, as well as one confirmed dead.

Mr Fear is thought to have spoken on Algerian state television about his experiences.

Reports suggest at least 23 hostages and 32 militants were killed in the siege.
