Louth motor engineer Ron Larder retires after 40 years

WELL known Motor Engineer Ron Larder is retiring from the motor trade after more than 40 years.

Ron, who is based at Orme Lane in Louth, said: “I have made many friends and established a good rapport with my customers over the years. Hopefully they would agree that I have tried hard to deliver high quality motor repairs and servicing with the invaluable help of John Clark and Tim Sharp.

“I would like to say a very big thank you to John for his friendship and loyalty over many years”.

Ron started in the trade in 1962 aged 19, initially working for John Pocklington at his Legbourne garage and later at Salfleet, until in 1972 he decided he would like to start his own business in Cinder Lane, Louth.

In 1976 he moved to North Holme Road and in 1978 acquired the Peugeot Dealership. He sold the site in 1984.

In 1986 he started working from his home in Little Carlton and John, who had worked with him since 1976, joined him and continued with vehicle body repairs.

During this time, Tim asked Ron if he would take him on as an apprentice. Ron agreed and Tim has been a reliable and loyal employee for the past 18 years.

When Ron bought the Orme Lane site in 1998, John moved to the new premises and set up a body shop in the adjoining workshop.

Morrisons has now bought the site from Ron.

John has bought premises on the Louth Industrial Estate. Tim is working at the family run business of M J Watts at Grimoldby, which has taken over Ron’s customer base.

Ron said: “I have worked closely with Michael from M J Watts over the last few moths to ensure that a smooth handover of business and continuity of service is maintained.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of my customers for their support and would strongly recommend that they transfer their business to Michael, who offers a very similar service to mine”.

Ron now hopes to have more time to spend with his family and to enjoy his hobbies, especially flying his beloved plane.
