Louth potholes targeted by '˜penis paintings' have been filled in

Lincolnshire County Council's Highways Department have filled in potholes in Newmarket, Louth, after a mystery '˜artist' spray-painted penis shapes around them in an apparent bid to pressure the authorities to carry out repairs.

The repairs were carried out yesterday morning (June 15), just 12 days after the graffiti was spray-painted around the potholes.

As reported, the tag ‘Wanksy’ (a play on the name of popular street artist Banksy) was also painted next to the potholes, and the Highways Department had condemned the actions of the anonymous culprit - saying that the repairs were already due to take place within a matter of weeks anyway.

Dean Myhill, area highways manager at the council, said at the time: “Although we realise people can find potholes frustrating, this kind of graffiti doesn’t achieve anything.”

Some residents have complained on social media about the state of the repairs, with one local resident - known as the ‘The Jedi Knight’ on Twitter - tweeting the Highways Department to say: “I take it it’s now against health and safety to use a roller to flatten down your work?”

The Highways Department responded, saying that they had logged a report through to the Highways Officer.
