Louth Sessions House open for Lincolnshire Heritage Open Day courtesy of Louth Town Council

LOUTH Town Council will once again be taking part in the county’s annual Heritage Open Day.

On Friday September 7, the Sessions House in Eastgate will open its doors to the public from 10am to 2pm and the town’s treasures will be on display.

Thomas Wallis’s portrait and his watercolours of Louth bridges will also be back at the Sessions House after being on show for four months at Louth Museum as part of their nationally acclaimed exhibition of Wallis’ superb Victorian woodcarvings.

This year the town Charters, which grant the town royal permission to hold markets, will be on show too. There will also be the opportunity to view the plaque awarded to Louth by Countryfile magazine to mark being voted Britain’s Favourite Market Town.

At 11am local historian and Blue Badge Guide Jean Howard will be on hand to introduce visitors to the Panorama, the charters and the paintings on show and share stories of illustrious local characters portrayed.

There is no charge for the event, which is part of the Lincolnshire Heritage weekend.

Anyone who cannot make it on Friday can view the Panorama and the paintings each Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 1pm, (and at other times, subject to room availability, by contacting the Town Clerk on 01507 355895).
