Louth thanked for its Olympic role

EAST Lindsey District Council has been thanked for the part it has played in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sebastian Coe , Chair of the London Organising Committee Olympic Games, and Sir Chares Allen, Chair of the Nations and Regions Group have presented the council with a certificate.

Although the Games were primarily in London, East Lindsey played a notable role including the Olympic Flame travelling through 14 communities on June 27 and the Egyptian Paralympic Team using facilities including St Bernard’s School and the Meridian Leisure Centre in Louth, before heading to the Games.

Louth also hosted the Lion Heart Project, three giant crochet Lions created as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

Council leader Doreen Stephenson, said: “I’d like to thank all those people who helped us deliver our part in the Games. Thank you.”
