Louth woman starts campaign in bid to save town ambulance station from closure

‘KEEP calm and save Louth Ambulance Station’ is a new campaign which has been set up after the news surfaced that the station could close.

Local resident Jackie Featherstone has launched her passion to keep this vital service alive via a new Facebook page which was set up last week and is already close to 100 supporters.

Jackie told the Leader: “When I heard the news that East Midlands Ambulance Service wants to close Louth Ambulance Station, I felt I had to do something to try and save this vital service that people rely on so much.”

“The Facebook page is there as a blog where locals can follow progress and also as a way to engage people’s views and ideas.”

Social networking is only phase one of this campaign, Jackie now aims to form an action group to gauge a wider view of awareness and more suppport via posters, T-shirts and car stickers.

Jackie added: “Having already gained the support of Louth Town Council, today I’m launching stage two of the campaign, to become an action group and start up a petition to save this essential service.

“I’m very grateful for the support already expressed on Facebook and hope other people will join and pledge theirs.”

The call to take action was sparked after reports last week confirmed that EMAS has proposed plans to close the local ambulance station and replace it with a centralised hub from Skegness covering the areas of Louth, Mablethorpe, Horncastle and Skegness.

Though a number of tactical deployment points with an ambulance will be included around the local areas where there will be no ambulance station.

EMAS say the move is ‘purely for the benefit of patients’.
