Mablethorpe coast is ‘buoyant’ as the tourist season looms

Recruitment on the coast has been described as ‘buoyant’ as the tourist season approaches, in spite of a numbers drop at Mablethorpe’s jobs fair.
Approximately 400 people attended this year’s event, which is down on last year’s figures of 600.
The jobs fair took place at Mablethorpe Community Hall and although numbers were down, June Howard, employment adviser for Job Centre Plus, has insisted that job prospects still look to be in good shape.
She explained: “Regarding the number of attendees, it is the first time in over 10 years that we are holding a jobs fair in Skegness in addition to the Mablethorpe event.
“Obviously some people have therefore elected to attend the Skegness event instead of the Mablethorpe event.
“In addition to this, Haven had already held a successful open day.”
But despite tough economic times, June added that recruitment on the coast is ‘buoyant’.
“The numbers claiming jobseekers allowance has remained on a par with previous years,” June said.
“We are fortunate to have not seen huge increases that other parts of the country have seen.
“Recruitment is buoyant, especially as Easter is earlier this year.”
Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Coun Doreen Stephenson added: “The jobs fair in Mablethorpe helped people to understand the jobs available in the area and employers to meet potential employees.
“We hope through events like this, and working with Job Centre Plus, we can help more people into full and part time work.”
June said: “Feedback from exhibitors was very positive. Most were issuing application forms, arranging further interviews and having informal chats with people.
“Several exhibitors said their expectations had been exceeded.
“One new exhibitor even said it was the best event she had attended.”
June also said: “Attendees were pleasantly surprised at the amount of help and support that is available in Mablethopre.”
