THE Sutton on Sea SPAR shop have defended their decision to remove the deli counter from the store last week.

The deli counter, selling fresh food to go, no longer operates from the store.

Sutton on Sea resident Daniel Turner told the Leader he was worried for the local elderly residents who rely on the store for hot, fresh food.

“Where else can they go?” he asked.

“I’m absolutely disgusted, the hot part has been there ever since I remember and there was no prior warning.”

A SPAR spokesperson said: “SPAR stores are constantly striving to best meet their customers’ needs and as a result this store has increased its product ranges, especially in the area of fresh foods and we have also expanded its hot food and food to go area.”
