‘Mindless thugs’ steal cash from Louth charity

SPONSORSHIP money raised in memory of a Louth girl who died has been stolen by burglars.

Elesha Craig and Laura Hoodless are doing a sponsored walk as a tribute to Rhianna Jeffrey, who died aged 13 in 2010.

This month is the second anniversary of her death and the duo had collected £150 in sponsorship for the Rej’s Dream charity, set up in Rhianna’s memory.

But on Friday night burglars broke into Revells Hair Design in Eastgate, Louth, where they work and stole the sponsorship money.

Elesha said: “Friends and customers have supported us and now these mindless thugs have taken everything. They broke through a skylight and made a lot of mess.

“We are asking people to come in and pledge £1 each so we can try to give something back.”

Elesha is a cousin of Rhianna’s mum Kerry. She and Laura are taking part in a six mile Rej’s Dream charity walk on May 13 from the Woolpack pub.

Beryl Jeffrey, secretary of Rej’s Dream, said: “It’s such a pity when the girls work hard and collect the money and someone goes along and steals it.”

Police said burglars also targetted Kidgate Surgery in Queen Street on Friday night. A window was damaged but it was not confirmed if anything was taken.

Lead flashing was stolen from around the dormer window of a roof of a property in Upgate but police say it is not clear if the incident is connected to the burglaries. Anyone with information should contact Police on 101.
