Monks’ Dyke students had stars in their eyes on stage

Students from Monks’ Dyke Tennyson College thrilled a packed hall over two nights with renditions of their favourite music stars.

First on stage were two Year 7 boys, Ben Corby and Aidan Harris who, despite stage fright, gave a fantastic version of PJ & Duncan’s 1990’s hit Let’s Get Ready To Rhumble! Chelsea Shaw was next with her rendition of Dionne Bromfield’s hit Mamma Said which delighted the spectators.

Assured performances from Jordan Powell as Tich, Kalisha Beck as Fergie and Sheena Osio who was Rihanna for the night all deserved the rapturous applause. Next on stage Megan Johnson as K T Tunstall, accompanied herself on the guitar as she sang K T’s hit Black Horse and the Cherry Tree. Jordan Dowswell, Year 10, looked uncannily like his chosen performer, Bruno Mars and enthralled the audience with his choice of song, Treasure. Amba Birmingham as Taylor Swift entertained the room, Damai Rumes from the Mablethorpe campus followed, entertaining the listeners with one of Leann Rimes’s hits and finally another student from the Mablethorpe campus Amy Yapp, singing If I Could Turn Back Time (and looking remarkably like Cher) rounded off the evening of entertainment.

Deciding a winner was hard but the overall winner on both nights was Jordan Dowswell as Bruno Mars. A guest performance of last year’s winner Ellie Stocks made the evening even more memorable.

Refreshments on the night were provided by the students going on the World Challenge expedition resulting in a massive boost to their funding. A raffle was also run on both nights in aid of MDTC Young Carers with magnificent prizes to be won. This raised £290.

Thanks must go to Ben Young and Adam Brown who provided essential technical support.
