Now known as Alford Focal Point, it was one of the libraries earmarked for closure by Lincolnshire County Council until a group of volunteers took it on.

Steering committee member Andy Taylor said: “In the interim, the interior has been decorated and refurbished and it looks to extend the services it provides and be more than just a library.”

Volunteers have received positive feedback from the community about the new look, which includes a “home area”, with armchairs, a fireplace and traditional dining table, and a children’s area, offering a sofa, toys and games.

Mr Taylor added: “Engagement with the community is vital and the steering committee are keen that local groups use the main area, and the space upstairs when the library is closed.”

They said ideas so far include hot-desking facilities, adult story-telling sessions and children’s Lego events.

l The library is open Tuesdays 10am-2pm, Fridays 2-6pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm.
