Newsflash: Man’s threat to ‘chop up’ suspected sex attacker

A man threatened to kill a suspected sex attacker after brandishing a 12-inch bladed knife in the street, Lincoln Crown Court was told.

Paul Morgan was arrested after police saw him waving the weapon around outside Kai’s Bar in Mablethorpe at 4am.

Andrew Scott, prosecuting, said Morgan swore at officers and told them “I’m a schizophrenic”.

He became aggressive and agitated when placed inside a police vehicle and shouted “I’ll kill that b****** and I’ll chop him up.”

Mr Scott said Morgan continued to be aggressive on the way to Skegness Police Station saying “I’ll kill him. Leave me in a cell with him and I’ll rip him up.”

Mr Scott added “He practically begged to be put in the same cell as the man. That person was under arrest in a cell at the police station.”

The threats were directed at a man arrested hours earlier for an alleged sexual assault in Mablethorpe.

“He said that if he found the male he would have been in custody on a charge of murder.”

Morgan, 36, of Hickory Way, Mablethorpe, admitted charges of making a threat to kill and possession of an offensive weapon on January 27.

He was given a 10 month jail sentence suspended for 18 months with supervision and 150 hours of unpaid work.

The court was told he’d already spent time in custody after he was remanded following his arrest.

Judge James Sampson told him: “I accept this was misguided, immature and impulsive behaviour but it remains an extremely serious case.”

David Eager, defending, said Morgan was clearly upset after learning of the allegation of sexual misconduct.

He told the court that Morgan wasn’t in a position to carry out the threats as when he made them he was already under arrest.
