North Thoresby WI talk on plants

The March meeting of North Thoresby and District WI took place in the Village Hall.

The new President, Gill Kettle welcomed 20 members and one guest to the meeting.

She thanked the hostesses for the evening Linda

Dickinson, Sharman Haigh and Isobel Pearce.

The Roll call ‘A gardening disaster’ was taken by Jenne Saunders.

In the Business section of the meeting details of the next Book Club, the Somercotes Group meeting and future events were outlined.

The President then introduced the speaker for the evening Mike Ireland who talked about Plants We Can All Grow – Maybe!

Mike is a very experienced and knowledgeable gardener and gave an excellent illustrated talk.

He included details of the countries of origin of the plants and how to look after them to ensure successful growth. He brought several plants cultivated from his own stock and seven members were lucky enough to win them.

The Vote of thanks was given by Lynda Larder. The competition A small item of cross stitch was won by Audrey Foster with Sheila Howsam 2nd and Linda Dickinson 3rd.

The raffle was won by Doreen Cheese.

The next meeting is on April 1 when Chrissie Chapman will be talking about The Beauty of Amber.

Visitors and new members are very welcome.
