Olympic inspired church restoration work gets underway in Barkwith
RESTORATION work on the tower and roof of St Mary’s Church, East Barkwith, has started.
Scaffolding has been put up for the main contractors Skillington Workshop Ltd of Grantham, one of the country’s leading building conservation and restoration firms. It was the London 2012 Olympics which provided inspiration for Martyn Chambers when he launched his direct appeal to all the people of the village last year, generating a tremendous amount of time and research into producing a document full of amazing facts and figures illustrating how everyone could help play their part in saving the church for future generations.
The appeal that he and his family launched was a tremendous success and the result of this together with other fundraising events arranged by the church committee and individuals and the very essential grants awarded have enabled the restoration of the church tower and roof to begin and thanks are due to all who supported the appeal or have been involved in any way. If there is anyone else who would like to contribute donations will be appreciated- every little helps- and can be sent to the secretary of St Mary’s Church Committee Mrs Jane Perkins, Barkwith House, Torrington Lane East Barkwith LN8 5RY.
