Locally born composer Patrick Hawes has signed a three album deal with Decca Records. His first release with them is Angel, recorded with New College Choir Oxford and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The album was recently featured as Classic FM’s Album of the Week.
Patrick also wrote the Highgrove Suite for HRH The Prince of Wales and was Classic FM’s Composer in Residence 2006-2007.
He works closely with his librettist brother Andrew, who is a priest in Lincolnshire and the Angel album features several pieces with Andrew’s words.
He was also recently in performance with the Louth Choral Society with his work Song of Songs.
Patrick and Andrew have also created a new work for the Sheringham & Cromer Choral Society in Norfolk to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War I.
This is about the Nurse Edith Cavell who was executed in the First World War for helping allies to escape. Her story has a particular resonance in Norfolk and in Lincolnshire where she had some of her training. This is due to be premiered in July in Norwich Cathedral.
