Incredible couple Pete and Betty Smith celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on Thursday (May 29) with a family party.
Their special milestone celebration was held at Kenwick Park Hotel in Louth.
The couple met on Bridlington seafront when they were on holiday with friends. Pete was from Louth and Betty lived in Scunthorpe.
Pete pinched a chip off Betty as an excuse to talk to her and their love blossomed from there.
Pete regularly hitchhiked a lift to Scunthorpe from Scampton where he was in the RAF doing his national service so he could see the love of his life.
They married in Scunthorpe, but set up home in Louth, later moving to a bigger home in Alvingham.
After the RAF, Peter worked as a sales rep for Cleveland, then Esso before taking early retirement in 1984. Betty stayed at home to bring up the family in the early years, but then later ran a number of businesses in Louth.
Pete was also involved for many years in Louth Old Boys Football Club and Betty often joked that the Sports Association was the third person in their marriage.
They have four daughters, Linda, Gillian, Judith and Alison and one son, Andrew.
Plus they also have seven grandchildren, Dean, Jodie, Jamie, Sara, Indie, Sam and Florence and three great-grandchildren, Emily, Jessica and Lila.
Pete and Betty have always been and remain to this day a very close and happy couple.
Their daughter and granddaughter, Alison and Indie came all the way from Australia to celebrate their special day.
Plus their daughter Linda came over from Spain.
