Police confirm man who died in crash near Spilsby was from the Alford area
A police sign at the scene of an accident
Police have confirmed that a man killed in a road traffic collision near Spilsby over the weekend was from Habertoft, near Alford.
Lewis Thomas James, aged 28 and a former solider, was killed sometime in the early hours of Saturday when his car left the road on the dual carriageway at Station Road in Gunby.
Officers were called to the site at around 8.30am on Saturday after a report that a grey Seat Leon had left the road and collided with a tree, but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Lewis’ family has spoken of a ‘much loved’ man who will be missed by all.
“He was loved and adored by everybody and everybody’s life he touched,” said the family in a statement to the Skegness Standard, the Leader’s sister paper.
“We’ve never found anyone who has a bad word to say about him.
“He was always the life and soul of the party and was always larking around and singing and dancing.”
Lewis was a former soldier who had served two tours of Iraq. In his civilian life he had only recently rejoined ICB Design and Engineering Ltd where he worked as a welder fabricator.
Prior to moving to ICB for the second time he had also been employed by Sid Dennis for a number of years.
Anyone who witnessed the accident, or who may have driven past the crashed car after it happened, should call the police on 101, quoting ‘incident number 92 of February 16’.
An inquest will be opened in due course but this is likely to be adjourned date to be fixed to allow for the completion of the police investigation.
