Police crackdown on drugs in Mablethorpe and Skegness
Lincolnshire Police have revealed information about Operation Grittar, an ongoing crackdown on the activities of organised groups who engage in drug crime along the Lincolnshire coast.
Throughout November and December, a number of homes in Skegness, Mablethorpe and Chapel St Leonards have and will continue to be subject to police focus.
To date several people have been arrested on suspicion of being involved with the supply of Class A drugs. Heroin, cannabis and mobile phones have been seized, as well as significant amounts of cash, which police have the power to confiscate under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
DCI Steve Taylor said: “The towns along Lincolnshire’s coastline are family resorts where people come to enjoy themselves in safety. This operation focuses on a minority of individuals who seek to blight our communities by trading in Class A drugs whilst also instigating unacceptable levels of violence.
“We will not tolerate those who commit such offences. My specialist officers and I will continue to robustly disrupt these groups and bring offenders to justice until drug dealing and its associated violence is eradicated from our streets”.
A number of men and women remain on police bail until early next year while the investigation continues and one man has been charged with offences relating to Class B drugs.
Michael Skended Danyo, 23, of Scarborough Avenue in Skegness, was charged on 28 November with possessing 12 wraps of cannabis. He will appear before Skegness Magistrates on 18 December.
Throughout Operation Grittar, Police have liaised closely with other forces and partner agencies, such as Local Authorities, Social Services and Registered Social Landlords.
Four people have been, or are due to be, evicted from their homes for breach of their tenancy agreements due to involvement in drugs.
Police are warning criminals that further warrants will be executed throughout the forthcoming weeks and they fully expect more arrests to be made.
Communities are being asked to help police disrupt the activities of criminal gangs by reporting suspicious behaviour. Information about crime can be passed on in complete anonymity by contacting the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
