A volunteer who ran the Coastal Lookout station at Huttoft expresses his final farewell after having to stop his voluntary watch duties.

Shaun Gandy who has run the Coastal Lookout at Huttoft Car Terrace for the last two years officially left the car terrace at the end of December.

The Leader reported in the summer of 2013 that under new by-laws, vehicles were no longer allowed to stop on the terrace overnight following a number of complaints from local residents to Lincolnshire County Council and barriers were imputed to stop the vehicles.

Shaun’s work (which was not affiliated with official organisations), was undertaken on a voluntary basis and kept a firm lookout over the area and Shaun raised the alarm to the emergency services when help was needed.

But a period of ill health shortly after leaving Huttoft Car Terrace for the last time prevented Shaun from saying his final thank you to the public for all of their support and now has the opportunity to express his farewell.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those people who visited our van, signed the visitors book and made donations to help us keep going.

“Without this help which far exceeded that provided by local authorities, the work at coastal lookout would not have been possible.

“I am very disappointed that it has all come to an end but the records of all watches and a record of the donations received will all be kept incase they are needed. I am greatly appreciative of the support I have received and this is a final thank you to everyone.”

So is this the end for Coastal Lookout? Shaun has been made aware of a lookout position at Chapel Point, so he hopes his work may continue in the future.
