A duo who are part of a successful exercise referral programme in Mablethorpe have been recognised at this year’s Lincolnshire Sports Awards.

Ross Cameron, 31, and Kara Belton, 23, received the ‘Contribution to Physical Activity’ award at the awards ceremony on Thursday, November 8, for their work on the exercise referral programme at the Station Sports Centre in Mablethorpe.

Kara explained: “Both myself and Ross are really pleased with the award.”

As members of the East Lindsey District Council Health Team, Ross and Kara have contributed in an outstanding way to the health and wellbeing of residents in some of the most deprived areas of East Lindsey, mainly Mablethorpe and Skegness.

Kara also said: “I think the exercise referral programme is so great because it gets people active, reduces medication in lots of cases and therefore saves the NHS money on treatment and prescriptions, and keeps people mobile.

“This is our job, day in and day out, so to be recognised for the work you’re doing within your job is a huge achievement.”

Individually, Kara has achieved the highest retention rates for exercise referral schemes in the county and Ross saw more people last year than any other individual instructor.

At Station Sports Centre in Mablethorpe, the team has seen the most amount of exercise referral patients in the county in the last year.

Also in the past five years, the pair have delivered high quality referral sessions to over 4,000 people.

Leader of the District Council, Coun Doreen Stephenson added: “Kara and Ross are part of a team that works tirelessly to improve the health and quality of life for people living in East Lindsey.

“I’d like to thank them, and other members of the team for the dedication they show, which is clearly having an impact in the community.”
