Stay safe workshop at Butlins

St Michael’s Primary School pupils will join other students from the area to learn essential skills in keeping safe in Lincolnshire, including how to stay safe on Facebook. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue is running a workshop for year 6 pupils fat Butlins, Skegness, between March 12-14. It will cover street first aid and fire and water safety.

Paul Fox, headteacher at St Michael’s, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to send our Year 6 children to the annual Stay Safe day at Butlins, Skegness again this year. The event has become an important part of our School Health & Safety programme as it brings together a range of safety groups and gives the children valuable life skill experiences about keeping safe some of which we cannot offer in the classroom.

“The children learn about more obvious physical dangers associated with fire hazards in the home, water safety and travel and what they can do to reduce risks.

“There are ‘explosive’ sessions on the dangers of entering electricity sub-stations with the idea it will be memorable in more ways than one! There are also workshops on reinforcing work in school on raising awareness of the fun, but potential dangers involved with social networking and general e-safety. Importantly, the day isn’t all work and it’s hoped the children remember the day’s messages by having a lot of fun too.”
