Suspected loan sharks arrested following operation in Mablethorpe

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of illegal money lending, following an operation in Mablethorpe this morning (June 4).

The England Illegal Money Lending Team working in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council executed a warrant at a residential property in Mablethorpe, seizing cash and documentation.

The suspects, one male, 49, and one female, 51, are currently in custody assisting officers from the team with their enquiries.

Mark Heal, service manager from Lincolnshire Trading Standards, comments: “Loan sharks take advantage of some of the most vulnerable people in society. They profit from other people’s hardship and will often enforce repayment by blackmail or threats of violence.

“The County Council, together with the England Illegal Money Lending Team, is trying to protect the residents of Lincolnshire by clamping down and loan sharks and preventing them operating in the area.

“I would urge anyone with information concerning illegal money lending to call 0300 555 2222.”
