Sutton man’s driving ban

A Sutton on Sea man, who drove with three times the legal level of alcohol in his breath, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared before magistrates at Skegness on Tuesday, November 6.

Thirty-seven-year-old Kestutis Zailskas, of Park Road in Sutton on Sea, was said to have been involved in a collision with a telegraph pole in East Street, Alford in his Honda car, the court heard.

The incident took place at about 8pm on the night of Friday, October 19.

When police attended the accident at the time, police found Zailskas in an ambulance although he was not badly injured. Officers then gave him a breath test. Zailskas told the police that he had swerved to avoid a cat in the road.

The breath test reading showed that he had 104 microgrammes of alcohol in his body in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

In defence, Nicholas Alderson said Zailskas had been drinking with friends and had swerved to avoid the cat as he drove home, and collided with the telegraph pole.

Zailskas was banned from driving for 25 months, to be reduced by six months if he completes an approved course, he was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and also ordered to pay £85 costs.
