A barmaid from Sutton on Sea is taking on a dryathlon quest to remain teetotal throughout the month of January raising funds for Cancer Research.
Cancer research UK devised the Dryathlon campaign and the principle behind it involves steering clear of alcohol from 9am on January 1, up till February 1.
For Sutton on Sea resident Tiffany Plume,26, her New Year’s resolution every year is to detox from alcohol in January and this year she thought raising money for a good cause would be an added bonus.
“My new year’s resolution every year is to detox from alcohol in January, and combined with my weight loss journey, I thought I would put my resolve to the test and give it a go and it would be a win win situation all round, she said.
“Plus in my eyes, a barmaid refraining from alcohol to most is a laughable concept.”
Tiffany works at Sutton on Sea Social Club and so far her dryathlon challenge is going to plan.
She added: “I’m finding it easier than I thought I would, with having two very young children, alcohol had never been a big part of my life, just the odd social drink really.
“It is not tempting as such, it is more of a teasing feeling.
“Knowing im serving it and not able to drink, especially when it comes to my usual Jack Daniels tipple is hard, but because it is going to such a good cause I know I’ll do it.
“Nothing is going to stop me.
“Currently I have raised £107 and my target is only £150, so hopefully I will smash through that target.”
