Taylor wants top chef title after entering contest
Could student Taylor Kirkpatrick become the next Jamie Oliver?
The year 9 student at Birkbeck College in North Somercotes has won the school’s heat in the FutureChef Competition, by a unanimous vote by the staff.
Taylor will cross the Humber Bridge to take part in round two of the competition at Hull College.
There he will be up against three other competitors and cook a two course meal for two people for under £7.
The winner will then go forward to round three and meet others in the regional finals, where they will have to prepare and cook a hot main course and a hot or cold dessert for two for up to £10.
Winners of each of the 12 regional finals will take their place at the national final held in London.
Participants will prepare and cook a two-course meal consisting of a hot main course and a hot or cold dessert for three from a specially selected basket of ingredients, within two hours.
Their food will be judged by a panel of high profile and celebrity chefs.
Marks are awarded on a variety of culinary skills including creativity and presentation, menu balance, composition, taste and flavour and workmanship with the coveted title of FutureChef 2013 on the line.
Springboard’s FutureChef helps young people aged 12 to 16 to learn to cook.
It was developed as a result of research findings into young people’s perceptions of the industry.
The research revealed that young people regard chefs such as Brian Turner, Gary Rhodes and James Martin almost as highly as pop or television stars.
Surprisingly, however, few genuinely considered a career as a chef.
