No sooner had year 7 students embarked on their Cordeaux Academy careers when 61 of them were whisked away by a group staff.
Staff members Mr West, Mr File, Mrs Coles, Miss Lobley, Mrs Tasker, Mrs Kemp, Miss Bilcliffe and Miss McBurnie whisked students off for a weekend of bonding and team building at Condover Hall in Shropshire, a grandiose Elizabethan mansion house, that is rumoured to be haunted.
Over two days the students and staff alike sampled a huge range of activities including archery, buggy building, abseiling, a Mission Impossible laser room, grid stones, initiative exercises and of course the unforgettable TRAPEZE.
The latter consisted of a climb up a very wobbly 30 foot pole to a tiny platform, where participants had to perform a dance move of their choice before jumping off to catch a trapeze—certainly not an activity for the faint hearted.
The evening activities included a disco and on the final night a campfire where students volunteered to showcase their talents to the whole
There were some very courageous and memorable performances, particularly from Dylan Smith whose fantastic gymnastic display could only be equalled by Yasmin Kirwin, whose skills in the art of ‘eructation’ caused a great deal of laughter.
As an extra treat the Condover staff gave the students a ‘Ghost Walk’ around the house, explaining the mystery and intrigue that surrounds the Grey Lady and the infamous bloody handprint.
On the final day the students received certificates from their Condover group leaders, as well as praise for their enthusiasm and excellent
Year 7 were a real credit to Cordeaux over the weekend and the trip allowed staff and students to really get to know one another in a short space of time.
Thanks go to all parents for allowing staff the opportunity to get to know their children and to the staff who accompanied the trip for their
commitment, enthusiasm and time.
Particular thanks go to Miss Bilcliffe who did a great deal of the planning and preparation prior to departure.
We would like to wish the Year 7 students good luck for their first year at Cordeaux. They have certainly made a strong and positive start during their time at Condover Hall.
