Therapeutic knitting
will reduce stress
Therapeutic knitting sessions are to be held in Louth.
The new pilot scheme aims to improve the health of East Lindsey residents through therapeutic knitting and is being delivered by East Lindsey District Council, in association with the Trinity Centre in Louth.
The scheme, which is part of the council’s Arts on Prescription programme, is being piloted as an extra activity to the HEELERS scheme and the target is to improve health through arts and cultural activities.
The council says that research demonstrates that theaArts are ‘particularly good for helping to address mental health issues’.
From January 9 to February 27, local residents will have the opportunity to take part in the therapeutic knitting sessions which give participants the chance to learn basic stitches, casting on and off and making simple items.
A council spokesperson said people who attend the classes will benefit from ‘increased self confidence, improved self esteem and mood, mental and social well-being and reduced levels of stress, depression and anxiety’.
The eight week pilot scheme will take place every Wednesday at the Holy Trinity Church in Louth.
Sessions will run from 11am until 12noon .
Classes will be free to those who are referred through HEELERS or any of the Trinity Centre’s services.
