A LOCAL lady and steam fanatic has been treated to an extra special birthday present on the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway.

Katherine Mansfield, from North Cockerington, was treated to a footplate ride on a steam locomotive on the railway at Ludborough as a birthday present from her husband.

“I love steam trains and this is something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Katherine.

“It’s like going back in time - seeing the Wolds through a cloud of steam is spectacular - I would recommend it to anyone.

“One thing I didn’t realise was just what hard work it is for the driver and firemen.”

The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway, which runs trains from Ludborough station, say their footplate experience is becoming more and more popular as a gift for that special occasion.

Priced at £25, it includes a voucher to spend in the station buffet and ticket for a partner to travel on the train.
