Update (August 29, 1.15pm): The lorry has now been recovered and the road is back open.

A lorry broke down and blocked both lanes of Keeling Street A1031 in North Somercotes this morning (August 29), leading Lincolnshire Police to put diversions in place.

One eyewitness, who helped direct traffic until police arrived, described the situation as “mayhem” after the lorry broke down and blocked the road this morning, cutting off the main road between Grimsby and Mablethorpe.

It is believed that the lorry gearbox broke as the delivery driver tried to reverse into the lane beside McColls and The Old Manor House B&B at around 10.25am.

The roads are currently busy in the area as holidaymakers attempt to head down towards the coast.

The lorry was recovered almost three hours later.
