UPDATE: Oil in Louth river
THE Environment Agency has investigated reports of oil floating on the surface of the River Lud in Louth.
People saw it floating down the river at the back of the Co-op supermarket.
An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “The River Lud has a fine film of diesel on the top which is breaking down and dispersing. We have had no reports of damage to wildlife.
“We were alerted to the oil in the water and traced it back to Upgate where there was a spill of oil from a drum. With contractors at the site we helped clear some of the oil from a gulley pot in the road and took some samples. We will continue to investigate what happened and take appropriate action.”
