A shark which was discovered on the beach in Mablethorpe has turned out to be a common adult smoothound and has sadly died.

Initially being reported that a baby shark was found, owner of Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary, Dennis Drew has confirmed that the shark was a 3ft adult.

The shark which was injured was taken to Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary, but sadly due to the severity of it’s injuries, the shark has died.

Dennis commented that it was ‘a sad moment’ because the shark was a ‘beautiful specimen’.

Mablethorpe Coastwatch were alerted about the find by a local resident and quickly contacted the Seal Sanctuary for support.

The smoothound shark has been spotted along Lincolnshire’s coast a few times over the years and it is not uncommon for them to float around our local waters.
