UPDATE: Weird noise mystery

Wednesday 11am - MORE response on the mysterious noise of Louth reported recently has flooded in but still there are no answers.

For two weeks people have been writing in complaining about a high pitched sound heard around Louth and coming up with theories behind it.

Mary Abbott of Lee Street texted the Leader at 10.22pm last week to say: "As I send this that noise is, as usual, very loud and very annoying - I have to shut the bedroom window to be able to sleep".

And she was not alone. Erica Silvester of Trinity Lane hears it late at night and thinks it is because she does not have double glazing.

She said: "The noise has been waking me early in the morning. I think it is the pitch of the noise that is particularly annoying. I was pleased someone else could hear it as I too was beginning to doubt my own sanity.

"I suspect as I do not have double glazing that may be why the noise is waking me virtually every morning."
