Management committee treasurer of Mablethorpe Community Hall, Frank Mummery, Chairman Janet Watson and booking and minute clerk Moira Love are appealing for the people of Mablethorpe to make use of their community hall or face losing the facility.

The management committee of Mablethorpe Community Hall are sending out a plea to residents to support the “vital facility” or see it close.

The building, located in Stanley Avenue, was built in 2000 and was paid for using European funding.

For the last 14 years it has been a vital community building used by a variety of groups and for private functions. Its adaptability alongside its peppercorn rates has been a lifeline to the community.

But the committee has had to spend large sums of money on repairs to the building and fear it will close if people do not support it.

Treasurer of the management committee Frank Mummery said: “We have managed to keep the running of Mablethorpe Community Hall going until we were hit with expensive financial repairs that needed to be done due to health and safety risks.

“All repairs come from committee funding, and, due to the high expenses we have endured, it puts us in a dreadful position with our finances. We have got to the point where we can’t continue as we are, so all we ask is for a little bit of help and support to help keep this vital community facility running.”

The committee cannot ask ELDC, which owns the building for help, because it says there is no appropriate lease in place and no official tenancy agreement, which is also hindering efforts to secure appropriate grant funding.

An East Lindsey District Council spokesman added: “Mablethorpe Community Hall is owned by the district council and let to the town council.

“We are responsible for the external brickwork and roof of Mablethorpe Community Hall.

“With regards to the running of the facility, its maintenance or repair work is a matter between the town council and the appointed management committee and not the district council.”
