Video: Legacy of much loved former doctor lives on at Louth Hospital

Waiting for Video...

The legacy of a popular former doctor at Louth County Hospital will continue through a new resource room dedicated to her memory.

The Mandira Resource Room has been created as part of lasting legacy from the family of Dr Mandira Jalajakshi, who sadly died last year.

Dr Jalajakshi, affectionately known to her friends and colleagues as JJ, had worked in the hospital for 15 years and was a familiar face around Louth.

The Mandira Resource Room will be a place where hospital staff can access their e-learning training in a quiet and peaceful environment, as well as giving extra space for ward meetings, interviews, multi-disciplinary team meetings involving other health organisations, and more.

It was officially opened at a ceremony on Friday afternoon.

Karen Kerman, Matron for Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, said: “We are very grateful for the kind donation from Dr Jalajakshi’s family to set this resource room up.

“JJ was a friendly face on the hospital wards and this resource room will act as a permanent reminder of the dedication she had to the hospital.

“The room will be a great help to our staff undergoing their development and training.”

A memorial plaque and bench for Dr Jalajakshi has also been placed outside the hospital’s Urgent Care Centre, near to where her ashes were scattered under her favourite tree in the garden.

Watch the video to see the cutting of the ribbon at the new Mandira Resource Room as well as a look at the memorial tree.
