Volunteers take on blind challenges at latest WI meeting

WI members from the Manby and Grimoldby group received a better insight into the problems posed by blindness at the latest meeting.
Four brave volunteers were given tasks to do wearing glasses which simulated various types of sight impairment.
First they had to count money and secondly to peel a potato.
These are tasks which are undertaken by Blind Society volunteers in order to give them better insight into the problems being faced by the clients.
Much discussion took place and the members were able to look at the resources available and then ask questions of Lesley and Margie Blyth.
The meeting, held at Ramsgate House on November 8, saw a turnout of 27 members and Lesley Smith, office manager for Lincoln & Lindsey Blind Society, spoke to the members about the history of the society and its aims.
Members were told about the activities that the society provides as well as the resources for the blind and sight impaired members of the society and the ladies were told about the Talking Newspaper, run by a team of volunteers, and about ‘the befriending service’.
Refreshments were served and everyone who attended had an interesting an informative evening.
Flower of the month was won by Barbara Bragg and the competition: a spectacle case – was won by Delma Chambers.
