Walkers take a break in Mablethorpe as part of their charity trek.

CHARITY walkers passed through Mablethorpe last Sunday, August 14, as part of a 150 mile trek raising money for the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity.

Christine Bonner, whose son Corporal Darren Bonner was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2007, organised the nine day walk for the charity who help serving or former Anglian Regiment soldiers who are in need.

Their route started in Scunthorpe and ended in Southend on Sunday, taking in much of the Lincolnshire coast including Mablethorpe where the group enjoyed a well earned rest for the evening.

The walk was entitled All the 4s, ‘4 the boys 4 the families 4 the fallen 4 ever’.

Christine said: “It doesn’t seem like four years ago that we lost our Darren, but it is so important to keep his and his comrades memories alive and this is what the walk does for us. Sadly nothing can ever bring my boy back, but I have to do something positive in the light of this absolutely horrific tragedy.”

Major Mick Abbs, who led the walk, added: “I served with Darren Bonner and have been inspired by this cause and in particular the endless enthusiasm and dedication displayed by his mother, Chris.”
