Six local women have lost a total of 17 and a half stone between them.
They slimmed down at Jane’s Slimming World group, which is held at the Meridian Leisure Centre every Wednesday morning and at the Trinity Centre on Thursday evenings.
They were nominated by fellow members in the groups’ annual Woman of the Year competition. The winners included children’s assistant Sabrina Fawcett. She joined Jane’s Slimming World group only four months ago after suffering overweight since being a teenager and has inspired her fellow members with her four stone weight loss. Young mum Becky Havercroft has been a member since March and has lost two stone 10 lbs. Retired mum of three Anthea Barter has lost nearly four stone since January. Runners up were target members Kathy Hart and Julie Buckley and Michelle Green, who raised money for Trinity Centre’s community larder by losing a stone in six weeks.
Anthea will go forward to the Slimming World Woman of the Year 2013 regional finals later this September.
She describes the final straw which drove her to seek help: “I was breathless on exertion, had continual indigestion, back pain and generally felt very unfit. I suffered with a lack of confidence that is now improving with my new image and fitness. I was a size 20 prior to joining Slimming World, now I am now in size 12 dresses.”
Anthea realised just how much her life had changed during a recent chance encounter: “My husband and I were in town shopping. We were looking in a shop window when a friend of ours called to my husband. I turned around to see who it was and the person appeared to be in shock as he realised who I was. He clearly had thought my husband was out with another woman!”
Jane’s Slimming World groups meet at the Meridian Centre on Wednesdays at 9.30 am and at the Trinity Centre on Thursdays at 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
