Youth unemployment falls by over 40% in Lincolnshire

Youth unemployment in Lincolnshire has dropped by 41.6 per cent, according to the latest figures produced by the Department for Work and Pensions today (Wednesday June 15).

The figures state that there are currently 970 young people (ages 18-24) claiming out-of-work benefits, which is 691 fewer than previously recorded.

Across all age groups, there are now 5,658 people claiming out-of-work benefits - a fall of 1,375 (19.6 per cent).

In East Lindsey, youth unemployment fell by 14 per cent (to 275 claimants) and general unemployment fell four per cent (to 1,290 claimants).

In the East Midlands region, female employment hit a record high at 70.3 per cent, compared to 69.2 per cent nationally.

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Stephen Crabb, said: “Secure employment and a decent wage are key to transforming the life chances of people right the way across the country, so I’m delighted to see another strong set of figures this month.

“There are more people in work than ever before, and wages are continuing their upward climb.”
