A running duo are getting ready to lace up their trainers and pound the pavement in the upcoming London Marathon - hoping to raise their target of £4,000.
Sharon Margarson, 44, from North Somercotes and Elaine Wilson, 46, from Sutton on Sea, both attend Mablethorpe Running Club are raising funds for the Breast Cancer Campaign. The pair are already up to £3,900, but the ladies are determined to get to their target fundraising total of £4,000.
This is the first time that both Sharon and Elaine have run the London Marathon and are racing for a cause very close to their hearts, as a friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. The running duo were asked to take part by Elaine’s employer, Don Amott Parks, of The Lakeside Holiday Park in North Somercotes, who began the fundraising campaign with a £2,000 donation.
Sharon has had some training setbacks recently due to injury, but is happy to finally be running back up to her training distances.
She said: “I’ve had a few weeks out of training due to getting injured around the time of Mother’s Day, but I now seem to be just about back up to standard. Unfortunately I won’t be able to run to the time I initially wanted, but all I want to do now is run the race, enjoy it and get to that finish line.
“Both myself and Elaine and really excited about running in the London Marathon and the odds for both of us to have been lucky enough to have got a place is like winning the lottery, it’s amazing.”
Elaine and Sharon would like to thank Don Amott Parks and everyone who has so generously sponsored them so far.
